It’s been too long since Arsenal have been genuine contenders.

And this season has been a breath of fresh air after a decade or more of mediocrity.

We’ve gone toe-to-toe with one of Europe’s strongest squads. And that is with a squad that is the youngest in the Premier League.

Keep that core together and we have a foundation that can battle for honours for years to come.

They have been responsible for the best season in quite some time.

But what player deserves to be crowned ‘Player of the Season?’

Here’s some worthy names:

Martin Odegaard

When the decision was publicised to give 23 year old Odegaard the armband, some thought it was a foolish decision.

But the Norwegian’s own brand of leadership – calm, soothing, assured and leading by example – has been the ties that have bound our team together.

And Odegaard is showing his team how it’s done. Chasing down every lost cause, giving every drop of sweat to this team. Even when his normally laser-focused passing is off radar, his effort never is.

12 goals and 7 assists so far for our skipper – but the way he is leading this team is even more impressive.

Bukayo Saka

Saka has been our Player of the Year for the last two seasons – and could anyone argue if he made it a triple?

Saka isn’t just a flat-track bully either – no player other than Kane has scored more deciding goals than Saka, coming up with the goods when it has mattered. Big games, last minute interventions, Saka is growing into a player no one can stop.

13 goals, 11 assists – Saka is a monster.

Gabriel

The Brazilian got an unfair rap at the start of the season as William Saliba grabbed the plaudits – but their roles couldn’t be more different.

The onus on Gabriel to bring the ball out of play places huge risk on every movement from the Brazilian – and he is carrying that responsibility every game.

He’s in the top ten for last man tackles and also for blocks – but his ability to transition defence into a threat cannot be overstated.

Aaron Ramsdale

Our 2-2 vs Liverpool.

Our dramatic win over Bournemouth.

The early 1-0 win against Leeds

That painful draw Vs Brentford.

The list goes on.

The common thread?

Ramsdale was instrumental in us grabbing those points. If it were any other goalie, we would have likely lost all of them.

He’s proved us all wrong.

There’s plenty more who deserve a vote.

Ben White.

Granit Xhaka.

Martinelli.

Zinchenko.
